Spelthorne Parkies Support Group

‘Helping to improve the quality of life for local people with Parkinson’s and their families’

The Spelthorne Parkies Support Group plays a crucial role in providing valuable assistance and camaraderie to individuals and families affected by Parkinson’s Disease in the local community. Established in 2012 by Jason Lane, whose personal experience with his wife Kirstie’s young onset Parkinson’s diagnosis inspired the formation of the group, the Spelthorne Parkies has since grown and flourished.

The group’s primary objective, as reflected in its mission statement, is to “help improve the quality of life for local people with Parkinson’s and their families.” This commitment is achieved through various means, including information dissemination, fostering friendships, and offering support to those navigating the challenges associated with Parkinson’s Disease.

The Spelthorne Parkies Support Group actively engages with the community through networking events, creating a supportive environment for individuals affected by Parkinson’s to connect, share experiences, and access valuable resources. The group’s activities, such as weekly fitness training and Move to Music sessions, contribute to the physical and mental well-being of its members.

Crucially, the Spelthorne Parkies relies on the dedication of a core team consisting of local volunteers who generously contribute their time and effort to run the group and its various activities. These initiatives are made possible through the financial support gathered from generous donations at fundraising events.

In summary, the Spelthorne Parkies Support Group serves as a lifeline for those affected by Parkinson’s in the local community, embodying the spirit of compassion, empowerment, and community support.
